Project one

faculty training e-learning course

Date: 2023

Role: Instructional Designer/SME

Project Type: E-Learning Course

This project aimed to provide faculty with a training course to build knowledge capacity of an organization's guiding principles. The faculty were expected to participate in informed conversations about program redesign, and the guiding principles were essential to identifying program outcomes. As the faculty liaison for the organization, I discovered that faculty were having a hard time seeing how the guiding principles integrated into curriculum; therefore, I built a three-module e-Learning training course to support their knowledge development and application of principles, as well as introduce them to the organization's mission, vision, and goals.

The development tool chosen was Articulate Rise, which was an effective way to provide faculty content in small chunks at a time. Learners would have access to the information and could work through the lessons on their own time. The lessons incorporated the use of text and video, as well as interactive content to appeal to the concept of multimodal learning. Furthermore, the content supported best practices in Cognitive Load Theory, as well as provided feedback and reinforcement to help correct misunderstandings along the way.

The training course was well-received by all faculty. Feedback on module content was used to revise and improve content that may have been unclear, and knowledge check data were used to inform continuous learning opportunities.
