Project Six

Chemistry Bootcamp e-learning game

Date: 2024

Role: Instructional Designer

Project Type: E-Learning Game

This gamified e-learning resource was developed to support the consistent introduction and instruction of laboratory safety to first-time chemistry lab users. The resource was developed through Articulate Storyline, and the goal is for the program to incorporate in the institution's LMS. Assets for the project were created using Powerpoint and Canva.

The evidence-based concepts utilized in this resource included Toda et. al’s Gamification Taxonomy, Cognitive Load Theory, and Constructivism. All of these concepts guided design decisions, alignment of objectives, activities, and assessments, and gamified elements. This project also required establishing relationships with SMEs to ensure all content was up to date and correctly presented to users.

The resource was well-received by the department seeking to implement, and we are currently working on revisions based on their lab and safety training manual to expand the game elements.
